FORWARD
These stories were
written between August and November, 2006. The first few stories, and
the idea for an audio book, were inspired by a concentrated period of
shortwave listening, and transcriptions of some Morse Code
transmissions.
The texts are read by Mary and
Sam, the voices of TextAloud speech synthesis software (with a little
bit of the author's own voice blended in on The Gas Dancers of Zirna). All
other sonic components were recorded from a one-tube regenerative
shortwave receiver designed and built by Larry Naumann of St. Louis,
Missouri, who likes to build these things and sell them on E-Bay.
By way of technical
information, the one-tube "regen" is a very simple circuit, the next
step up on the wireless evolutuionary ladder from the basic crystal
receiver. Even so, it can pull in signals from all over the world - and
who knows where else...
