The Taragon have no
nations. They are all simply Taragon.
But they have heard tell
of nations with national anthems,
pledges,
and oaths
of allegiance.
Finding
these ideas most
curious, and wanting to learn more, they sought out
some
representative compilations, and listened. Upon repeated
listening they
came to
the conclusion that few of the anthems
are really very good, and that
most of
them were not even
composed to be national songs. The nations just
stole them
and put stupid words to them. But even so, the Taragon were
amused
enough to
follow suit and appropriate some material
from previous sources into
something
like a national anthem
of their own.
Now, all the children of
Taragon are taught to recite the anthem –
with fingers crossed behind
their
backs.
